Chairman’s Report – Joburg Squash AGM 2020
I would like to welcome the club representatives to the 2020 AGM. Today we step back and reflect on the squash year and the services that we provided on behalf of you the members.
The 2020 COVID year has been a terrible year for South African sport and South Africa at large. We have had to deal with the loss of game events but also the loss of loved ones.
I joined Gauteng Squash back in 2007 and have been honoured to develop with a team dedicated to providing a service to its membership. With Angie at the helm of school squash and Paul at Gauteng masters squash we will continue to develop our relationships.
I need to mention the successfully managed service to our squash members such as the:
• Efficient administration – Jeannie and Sharon
• Sound budget and finances – Roland
• Regular and effective committee meetings – the committee
• Firm relations with the schools committee – Angie
• On-going development of the game into disadvantaged areas such as SOWETO and Braamfontein and successful mass participation programmes and coaching – Glenn
• Our flagship development programme – Egoli Squash
• Well run tournaments – Our clubs and committee
• Triumphant Jarvis Kaplan teams – Devon and his team
• Coaching programmes – Dikana
• A tradition of history and recognition of our provincial players through the awarding of colours ceremony – the committee / JK committee / Schools committee
• Communication through our administrative office and web site – Jeannie and Glenn
• League planning, management, record keeping – John
These above points are some of the services that we provide from the membership fees that members pay every year.
Successes for 2020
1. Egoli representation in schools’ teams and Jarvis / Kaplan squads
2. Jarvis / Kaplan wins and performances – Men’s A winners 2020
3. Egoli community programmes and in 2020 the COVID food packs programme
There are many challenges that we still face but now I can finally state that that is the responsibility of the new committee. Thank you to those who participated in and congratulations to those who succeeded in winning the various leagues and tournaments – juniors, masters and seniors. I would like to thank the committee members for their sterling work in the past and for their contribution to the organisation over the many years.
Thank you also to:
• Our sponsors for their continued support and
• Club chairmen and chairwomen who ensure that their clubs survive and grow
• Squash SA for their support and funding
I now bid you farewell after 13 years of service, all the best, its been one hell of a squash match.
Barry Hendricks – Chairman – Joburg Squash
